Custom Electronics Build: E-22 Blaster with Light and Sound

The E-22 blaster rifle — carried by Shoretroopers in Rogue One — is a distinctive weapon that begs for the full treatment. This commission produced an E-22 replica with integrated muzzle flash LED and blaster sound effect, triggered from a switch built into the grip.

The Prop

The E-22 is a double-barreled blaster with a unique horizontal barrel arrangement that makes it instantly recognizable. Our replica was printed in PETG in multiple sections to manage print quality on the long barrel shroud, with internal routing channels designed for the electronics from the model stage.

Electronics Package

The barrel tip houses a high-brightness white LED behind a diffused lens for a clean muzzle flash effect. A DFPlayer Mini sound module plays a custom blaster sound clip from Rogue One through a small speaker mounted in the receiver. A rechargeable lithium pack in the grip powers both, with a charge port accessible under the magazine release panel.

Trigger Mechanism

The trigger is a functional push-switch — when pressed, it triggers both the LED flash and the sound simultaneously. A single short press for single shot, hold for rapid fire mode. Convention-safe and fully enclosed — nothing accessible or dangerous.

Finishing

Painted in Shoretrooper grey with sandy Scarif dust tones in the recesses. The barrel tips are done in a slightly darker metallic to suggest heat scoring. Full matte varnish over everything to kill gloss and sell the worn military hardware look.
