Full Paint Commission: Starkiller Armor from The Force Unleashed
Partilhar
Galen Marek's training gear from The Force Unleashed isn't an armor we get asked for every week, which is exactly why this one was fun. A client in Germany ordered the full Starkiller Armor with a custom paint job, and he wanted a say in how it would look from start to finish.
The Brief
The armor was printed from the client's own measurements, in PETG so it could handle being worn and not just displayed. The printing was the easy part. The paint was where most of the conversation happened: before anything got primed, we went through the shades and colours together, so both of us knew what the finished armor should look like.
Painting with the Client in the Loop
Once the paint work started, we sent photos along the way so the client could tell us if it looked right or if something needed to change. When he asked for adjustments, we made them before moving on to the next step. It's slower than painting on our own and shipping the result, but on a custom finish it's the only way to be sure the armor matches what the client has in mind, and not just what we had in mind.
Ready to Wear, Not Just a Box of Plates
Rather than shipping a pile of loose pieces, we connected the parts that belong together before packing, so the armor goes on without the client having to work out the assembly on his own. It made the trip to Germany and arrived in one piece.
Result
After unboxing, the client told us the colours were good and the armor was exactly what he'd hoped for. A few days later he wrote in his review that the end result was even better than he expected. He's still waiting on the rest of his outfit, so we'll add photos of the complete Starkiller cosplay here once it's all together.
